Fred Parker

A resident of Sonoma Valley, the artist holds a Masters of Art degree in painting from the University of California at Davis. Between the 1960’s, when he received that degree and later, in the 1980’s, when he was finally able to start working as a full-time artist, he held curatorial, teaching and administrative positions with several major art museums and universities – including the Pasadena Art Museum, the Santa Barbara Art Museum, the University of California and Sonoma State University.

For the past two and a half decades, he has lived in Sonoma Valley developing a considerable reputation as an artist of the local landscape, saying that the area’s mountains, vineyards, trees and skies provide continuous inspiration for his works in a variety of media. His work can be found in numerous local collections, including the El Pueblo Inn, the Sonoma Mission Inn and the Lodge at Sonoma, and on wine labels, including the Deerfield Ranch Winery in Kenwood and Homewood Winery in Sonoma.

In 1994, for his artistic accomplishments and contributions to the community, the City of Sonoma’s Art Commission selected him as the Cultural Treasure of Sonoma – Artist of the Year. In addition to art exhibit here at VJB, more examples of his art and a complete overview of his background can be seen on his website: www.parkerfineart.com / or a visit to his studio / gallery here in Kenwood.
