For the Belmonte family, tradition and hospitality are everything. What began in the late 1990s as a dream shared by brothers Henry and Victor, to pour their own family wines at their Italian restaurant, soon became a legacy. After Victor’s unexpected passing, VJB Vineyards & Cellars was born, named in his honor: Victor Joseph Belmonte.
In 2003, the family opened their Kenwood tasting room with just five wines, including their flagship Dante blend. Over time, that humble space grew into today’s Tuscan-style villa with its piazza, deli, wood-fired pizza, gelato, and a portfolio of Italian varietals rarely found in California.
Every bottle, every meal, every warm welcome is a celebration of Victor’s spirit and the Belmonte family’s love of sharing Italian tradition with Sonoma Valley.
Meet The Belmonte's
Henry Belmonte –
The Big Parm
Henry’s love for wine began at just nine years old, watching his father and uncles make homemade wine in their Massachusetts basement. Years later, he and his brother Victor turned that passion into the family label that became VJB. Today, as a devoted father and the heart of the winery, Henry pours his love for people into every detail–creating a warm, family environment where every guest feels like part of the Belmonte story.
Vittorio Belmonte –
Il Patron
Vittorio’s journey with wine began at just eight years old, picking grapes in his hometown of Bonito, Italy. Those early days shaped his deep respect for authenticity and tradition, a passion he has carried into every bottle at VJB. With tireless energy and a love for sharing true Italian varietals, Vittorio guides the vineyard and winemaking teams, ensuring each wine reflects both his heritage and his heart.
Maria Belmonte –
THE Nonna
Maria, born in Bonito, Italy, began cooking at just ten years old, learning treasured southern Italian recipes from her mother and grandmother. After settling in Kenwood in 1976, she opened the family cafe, quickly winning the hearts of locals with her flavorful dishes. For 15 years in downtown Santa Rosa, Maria’s restaurant, Portofino’s became a beloved gathering place, known for her creativity and devotion to authentic cuisine.
Today, as Executive Chef at VJB, Maria continues to share her passion with Henry, and together they create memorable meals for guests. Maria’s sauces, pestos, and tapenades, praised by publications like InStyle and Wine Spectator, are an extension of her gift: bringing people together through food, tradition, and love.
